International day of the book
Our Bachillerato students conduct a campaign to promote reading among their youngest peers.
April 23rd is a symbolic date for world literature. It is on this date in 1616 that Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died. It is also the date of birth or death of other prominent authors, such as Maurice Druon, Haldor K.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo.
Therefore the UNESCO chose from 1996 to celebrate on this day every year , undertaking the responsibility of the event. With the help of the event, UNESCO aims to inculcate reading habits among people, especially the youth and highlight the various issues surrounding authors, publishers and other related parties
Moreover , 2016 marks the fourth centenary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare. On this occasion , our eldest students have toured the school classrooms reading poetry, excerpts of Don Quixote and other works of world literature in order to set an example to the youngest that reading the classics is always a good idea.
This activity has been carried out on the initiative of the students themselves, who have shown interest in transmitting among the youngest the love of reading. In return, a big applause thanked the effort and example received from the elderly.
To all, thanks, congratulations and keep on reading!
